A visitor was asking the other day why punting forums are getting quiet lately. I don't know if they are I only visit 3 and they are all quiet. Propun used to be busy but there is hardly any activity now and what there is, is of no interest to me, don't lay for a start. I do go to the SAfooty site plenty of interesting threads but there is hardly any greyhound tips. Last tip on the 4th of Dec. safooty.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=36358&start=1960I think the reason is that there is only so many aspects of racing we can discuss and going over ploughed ground is a waste of time, and let's face it, if you had a really really good and winning system would you share it? I don't mean occasional tips like 'guest' does but the whole works as how to get those selections? I doubt it. Which brings me to a post I came across this morning on Propun; "I'm looking for a system to end the search for any other system today i.e. it wins 5+ days out of 7 and ticks over NICELY in the accumulation stakes over weeks - months - years. Based on the depth of knowledge, conversations, street smarts and substantial punting brains here, something tells me it's in here somewhere!
if you knew the answer, what would it be chaps?"How many useful replies you reckon he is going to get? It was posted by a well known moocher, who never posted anything of value himself.

THERE is always something of interest even in tips , you could keep all the stats on different tips , within reason and use the results from that test to create your own system. But most systems that seem to work either have long runs of outs or not enough bets and helping people is one thing, giving them everything is another when you don't know who they are, then you have people like woof who shared a great deal of what they do, even though i could see the potential of it, i could only barley grasp it at best, and no i don't expect him to get any reply.

I agree Shirley we could use tips as a seed to build a system, however I have my doubts about that. I do have a few reservations about tips. First you may find it strange when I say that while I would prefer tips that actually win long term, I value tips that lose big, day in day out more than tips that tend to "walk in place", that is going nowhere year in year out keeping the bank static. At least with the losing tips I can avoid the selections. With the static ones? If the provider of the tips can't make it work knowing all the ins and outs how can I make it work? An other very important aspect is the consistency of the method of arriving at said tips. How can I tell if the system rules change from day to day or weeks to weeks? Don't want to mention names but there is one on Propun mainly doing laying but he never has a system going longer than a week. Also the same for the static ones, why do people do this when they make no money? I suspect they enjoy the process doing form more than winning? If a win comes along it's a bonus for them but not the ultimate aim as it seems. I like eggy79's tips they are consistent he is being let down by the vagaries of greyhound racing, I was watching a race he tipped the other day and the hot fav. he tipped should have won by 20 length but got skittered. Ps as to that post on Propun he is getting no tips he wants, for very obvious reasons, as I said if you got something that makes money in this game you'd never give it away. Not because of being a nasty greedy basket but because you'd erode your edge. This is a dog eat dog business, we can be nice and helping as long as our territory is not invaded.

Using tips to build a system is simply just keeping the stats and working out what the winners seem have in common, this is of coarse assuming the tips are better than random selections, even though i operate a few systems to arrive a my selections there is common threads that run through them and you would end up with less bets, but would hopefully win, but you would have a system of your own, sort of along those lines, everyone has to start some where by eliminating something as part of a system

everyone uses a system for every bet they place whether they know it or not.
Sa Footy was a vibrant punting site a few years back, and was going great guns when Oaksy was able to post up his markets. He is still the best market maker I have seen.
From the New Year I will post a running tally of investments made.
the profit target will be minimal, trying to build the bank.
I am still working on my horse system, but that will be finalised for the start of the new year.
For dogs, I don't use a set structured system as such. A lot comes from video watching and then speed maps.
a lot of people use twitter for tips etc.
