eggy, most is just common sense, higher grdes run faster times , which also translates into quicker split sectionals. so dogs dropping grade although their split times might not change that much where they are placed at each split or PIR can be very different, and the pressure/competitiveness of the early sectional is relaxed when they drop a grade which is why those grade droppers become competitive. That article was based on American racing, where they dogs can spend their entire career racing at one track or they may ship out to another track during the different seasons.

Quite right. Sometimes we can deviate from simple plans and chase the lure of the big jackpot F4s

Interesting, I always have problem identifying class drops unless it's a clear 4 to 6 or such. any of you can sort them out in order? There are some obscure one for me in the OZ list not to mention NZ.

Mick yes obscure grades appear or one's that fit a purpose for the dogs nominated. If you run a secondary measure by deleting the winner's time and then using the first couple of finishers time as a sort of Internal Grade measure that can run hand in hand with the Grade system , best is to always read the grading guidelines and write down the grading table based on what you have read.

Here is a question is a length beaten at 515mtrs in avg time , the same as 1 length beaten at 450mtrs in avg time? same for split sectionals at different distances

Here is a question is a length beaten at 515mtrs in avg time , the same as 1 length beaten at 450mtrs in avg time? same for split sectionals at different distances dont know about split sectionals but len beaten on different distances is definitely depends on the ability to run the distance for longer races. for shorter ones to be 10 in front simply means that there was trouble behind or an extremely lucky jump out of the box.
Of course I might be wrong??

so if you were using a point system like they do in horse racing, they award points based on proportionate measures like 1len beat over 1000mtr proportionate to 2000mtr it would be 2 lens

Does the same point system apply in reverse?

Your more right than wrong Oaks, here below is a discussion re HK racing and using proportionate / ratios to line up the different distances and the real point being is WHY even try an line them up if so few compete from one distance to another
"well only one horse in recent times has run at both distances and maybe 10 have ST1000 - ST1800 and they were not running competitively over one of the distances so you would be making assumptions if your trying to lineup both those distances with your standards you do have a problem, but understand that the Core (best) ST1400 runners (under 30runners) rarely run at ST2000 and don't perform to their ST1400 figures"
